My Home Page

I want to start off with an apology...this web site was definitely not my idea!

So why the site?

Well, I'm a major shareholder of a UK Product Design company called Fripp Design. The shareholders thought it would be a good idea to give potential clients a bit more information about the people behind our Product Design, Industrial Design and Rapid Prototyping business.

I thought it might be useful to explain why I set Fripp Design up with my business partner, Steve Roberts. Independent of each other, we both wanted a business which was capable of generating long term sustainable revenues so we could build a business with long term value. The problem with traditional consultancy businesses is you tend to be only as good as your last job. Steve and I didn't want that type of life style business so Fripp Design is focused on developing our own Intellectual Property. We fund this through client work which I thoroughly enjoy doing (not that Steve doesn't...it's just that he's not a Product Designer!) and would always want to be doing (it keeps the Product Design juices flowing!); it's just we don't want to be reliant on constantly having to find new work...far too stressful (finding Product Design work...we love doing Product Design!)

So what do I do?

Working within all aspects of product design alongside business partners I work to develop commercial designs for licensing to third parties.  As well this, I provide both 3D and 2D colour visualisations (generated in-house and externally) to a variety of clients with whom we work closely to form trusting relationships, delivering innovative design work as requested and, as importantly, on time. Clients include Sheffield Hallam University (Packaging Partnership), Leeds University (EDCIC), Galpharm, Iceotope (Very PC), Key Technology Solutions, Cammax Ltd, Regional Services Limited, Coca Cola, Heinz, Marks & Spencer, Mammas & Papas, Britvic, Sensopad Ltd, The Bryar Group, and channels4profit. I also build models on our ZCorp 3D Printer (I recently built a scaled model of my dad's 1931 three wheeler Morgan sports car for his 60th birthday).

The site gives you information about me, what I'm good at (the author of this page's comments; not mine...I'll let others be the judge of that!), what I like doing (personally and professionally), Product Design businesses I respect, other businesses which I like and web sites I think are important to the Product Design industry. Finally there is a blog page which, I promise, are my thoughts and not scripted on my behalf.

Think of this as a facebook/linkedin site in one.

If you have any thoughts, comments, ideas, then please do not hesitate to contact me at Fripp Design.

Thanks for viewing.
